Service means contributing or helping to benefit others and the common good. Learning means gaining an understanding of a subject or skill through study, instruction, or experience. Combining the two concepts creates contributions that help the serving individual grow and the serviced community thrive.
AS AN ENGLISH 12 STUDENT, THE NVPS BOARD OF EDUCATION REQUIRES SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION AND A SATISFACTORY PRESENTATION OF AN SLP PROJECT AS A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. THIS INCLUDES 10 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SEVERAL READING/WRITING CONTRIBUTIONS PROVING ENGLISH 12 GRADUATES ARE "LIFE LONG 'SERVICE' LEARNERS." Documentation of the 10 hours of service learning will be due prior to the final presentation of the portfolio. It is highly recommend that the 10 hours be completed during first semester as second semester is short and full of other obligations. The final portfolio and all of the contents will be submitted digitally and presented in person to the NVPS Board of Education prior graduation using the below template. Each portfolio requirement has specific directions, rubrics, and due dates and will be assigned throughout the year as an assessment grade. |
